ALPHA60 PROFILE: JORDAN FLEMING
Artist and designer Jordan Fleming is known for her playful, expressive forms and richly tactile materials - and her latest design for Australian lighting brand Objects for Thought (Oft) is no exception. Launching during Melbourne Design Week, TUPPA is a sculptural lighting collection that channels Fleming’s signature aesthetic: lively, offbeat forms crafted with care. Referencing the soft curves of vintage Tupperware, the pendant lights feature hand-blown glass shades paired with spun brass or stainless steel, creating pieces that feel both nostalgic and contemporary. Designed to be just as compelling off as they are on, the collection reflects Fleming’s instinct for turning everyday objects into emotive, character-filled works of art.

Form first or function first - what leads your design process?
Both, but never strictly. Sometimes I begin with a tucked-away form or materiality idea, waiting for the right project to give it purpose. Other times, it’s the emotional or spatial intent that leads, I want people to feel, what I want the piece to do in a room. Either way, form and function end up in dialogue, shaping each other quietly through research and hands-on prototyping.
One object you’ve made that taught you something unexpected?
Finishing the sand-cast aluminium Tall Bowl Éclat taught me patience through the slow, deliberate rhythm of grinding, shaping, and polishing. For the Tuppa collection, observing the blowing of the coloured shades deepened this mindset, as we watched Ruth Allen’s glassblowing- a precise, collaborative dance where the unpredictability of colour and form revealed the magic of process and material.
If your work had a soundtrack, what artist would be on repeat?
It’d be a bit of a mixed bag...just like all there personality. On repeat would be Jacqueline Taïeb, Ty Segall, Everything But the Girl, Still Corners, and of course… Kylie.

The first thing you should know about me is?
I’ve spilt nearly every glass of water I’ve ever had.
