Denim Care Guide

Denim is one of those fabrics that just gets better with time. It’s a strong, hard-wearing woven fabric, usually made from 100% cotton or a cotton-rich blend. Once each pair of jeans is made, it’s washed to create that classic, lived-in denim look we all love. Because different denim qualities and colours need different wash treatments, which means the fit can vary slightly from style to style.

Denim is designed to soften and fade as you wear and wash it, so expect your jeans to evolve over time and become your own. When shopping online, we always recommend checking the individual size & fit page and our how-to-measure guide. It’s the best way to get a clear idea of the actual measurements and helps you choose with confidence.

Dye Transfer

Darker denim may release excess dye, particularly when new.

  • Common with black, navy, and dark-coloured denim
  • Dye transfer may occur onto light-coloured fabrics or surfaces
  • Wash dark denim separately before first wear to reduce transfer
  • Avoid contact with light-coloured garments, footwear, and upholstery
  • Always follow the individual care label instructions

Washing

Denim softens and fades naturally over time and may shrink or stretch slightly with wear and washing.

  • Wash as infrequently as possible, around once every six months
  • Turn inside out and wash in cold water only
  • Do not soak, as this can damage or cause bleeding from the leather patch
  • Leather patches will naturally age over time

Spot Cleaning

Spot cleaning can affect the colour and finish of denim.

  • Avoid spot cleaning, as rubbing or chemicals can lift dye
  • Do not dry in direct sunlight, as this can fade colour and damage the leather patch
  • White denim should not be spot cleaned, as products can cause yellowing
  • A gentle overall wash is the safest option for white denim

Maintenance

Simple care helps extend the life of your denim.

  • Store denim in a cool, dark place
  • Avoid pulling jeans up by the belt loops, as this can weaken and cause tearing over time
